Spring Lists (things I look forward to in spring)

Even though my birthday is in spring, it is probably the season I am the least excited about. In my opinion, it simply has the least personality, just lots of waiting. Waiting for the winter to end, snow to melt, ground to try and summer to begin. And then there’s mud of course! As an owner of two long-haired dogs and a white car, I just can’t get pass it. Mud everywhere.

Don’t get me wrong, I like that we have all four seasons in Estonia. Up until about five years ago I was a complete summer person. But then, a bit surprisingly, I realised that after an active and outdoorsy summer full of events and communicating it feels nice to cosy up at home during the autumn. And as a huge fan of Christmas I love everything wintery anyways. In a perfect world (or Estonia) the summer would simply be a little longer and warmer, winter little colder and whiter and spring definitely a lot shorter. Since it is not something in my power to change, I am determined to enjoy it as it is, the best I can.  I’ve managed to fall in love with Autumn and winter, so it is time for spring!

One thing that has really helped me notice the different seasonal benefits is Pinterest. Silly, I know, but gathering and sorting inspirational pictures for seasonal moodboards helped me notice the little things I enjoy a little better. Here is the thing though. What are the awesome things that could be easily categorised as spring?! Tulips, eggs and spring cleaning? Gardening and easter bunnies?! Not really into that. Any cool spring outfits? Foods? Events? Activities? Blooms and cute pastel colors aren’t quite my thing either.

It is time to make my own spring list. About things to notice, enjoy and to do. If not to motivate then at least to distract me from all that looooong waiting.

  • Freshness, light and lightness
  • Catching the first warm sun rays
  • Open windows and fresh air
  • Terrace openings
  • Sunlight in the mornings
  • First meal/BBQ outside
  • First day with no coat
  • First bare legs
  • First bike ride
  • First tennis outside
  • Jogging
  • Clean streets, dry feet
  • Rollerskating
  • Easy fresh foods instead of hearty comfort foods

Things to do (sadly couldn’t skip some cleaning):

  • Sort the wardrobe, put away winter clothes, take out summer shoes
  • Dry clean and mend winter clothes
  • Wash windows, curtains, rugs, mattresses
  • Air the pillows and blankets
  • Put out the summery cushions
  • Plant flowers to fill the pots
  • Go jogging
  • Refresh the hairstyle
  • Summery manicure and pedicure
  • Clear out the computer and phone
  • Wash the makeup brushes
  • Decorate the Easter eggs
  • Make pasha
  • Find something to learn

And last but not least, I think spring is the best time to travel! It doesn’t even have to be to the other side of the world. It is generally already much warmer in Europe, perfect for city breaks or even skiing in the mountains. Helps to charge the batteries and pass the time while doing all that waiting 🙂
